ABOUT GATE 2022 EXAM

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is an examination which is conducted by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee), IISc on behalf of National Coordination Board (NCB) – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. Every year one of the 7 IITs conducts the GATE Exam.

  • To pursue ME/M.Tech/MS/Ph.D. in prestigious colleges like NITs, IITs & IISc Bangalore
  • To pursue ME/M.Tech/MS in other recognized colleges and universities with a stipend of Rs.12400/- per month for 2 years.
  • To pursue Ph.D. in recognized colleges and universities with a stipend for Rs.30,000/- per month
  • PSUs like BHEL, ONGC, IOCL, BARC, NLC, IRCON, RITES, etc are taking candidates based on their GATE EXAM Scores
  • To pursue MS at NTU (Singapore), NUS (Singapore), Dresden University (Germany) with GATE Score
  • To get a job at private companies with a minimum salary of Rs.50000 GATE Score is considered.

Questions TypeThere will be three question types

Number of sectionsGATE 2022 question paper will comprise of total 3 sections except for AR, CY, GG, EY, XL, PH and MA papers

1) General Aptitude (GA)

2) Engineering Mathematics (for XL papers it is Chemistry)

3) Subject – Specific section

General Aptitude SectionThe GATE paper will also consist of a compulsory General Aptitude (GA) section constituting of 10 questions

5 Questions will carry 1 mark

5 questions will carry 2 marks each

Therefore, the total marks for this section will be 15 marks

Marking SchemeMCQs carrying 1 mark each– 1/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

MCQs carrying 2 marks – 2/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer

There is no negative marking for Multiple Select Question (MSQ)

 Eligibility to appear for GATE 2022 exam is as follows :

(1) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are pursuing the final year of such program.
(2) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
(3) Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
(4) Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
(5) Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
