Humble Beginnings in Trichy
Fran’s early life was filled with constant changes. Having studied in nearly 6–7 schools across Tamil Nadu, he often felt like a late starter in academics. His father ran a Pepsi factory in Madurai, and later the family shifted to Trichy where Fran did his 11th and 12th.
As a child, Fran had a natural love for the service industry. While other kids spent their time playing, he found joy in helping during family functions — chopping vegetables, assisting with cooking, and watching how food could bring people together. But a decade ago, pursuing a career in cooking or hospitality was still considered taboo in Indian society.
Thankfully, Fran had supportive parents who understood his passion and encouraged him to look beyond the conventional.
The Leap Abroad: New Zealand Calling
Fran came to Trichy Plus to prepare for his Verbocity & IELTS classes, a decision that changed his life forever. Influenced by his mentors, he chose to study Hospitality Management at Whitirea Institute in New Zealand.
Landing in New Zealand was a cultural shock — quiet streets, fewer people, and the sudden need to do everything independently. He also made an early mistake by staying with fellow Tamil students outside campus, which limited his exposure.
Today, he strongly advises students: “Stay on campus, meet people from other countries, learn, and expand your worldview — that’s why you’ve traveled so far.”
Lessons from Abroad: Dignity of Labour
One of Fran’s biggest takeaways from his time abroad was the dignity of labour. Every student worked part-time, doing jobs from cleaning to customer service. Fran himself worked in roles connected to hospitality, gaining real-world, hands-on training that textbooks could never provide.
He emphasizes how these jobs taught him discipline, responsibility, and confidence — and believes that Indian parents should encourage their children to work part-time too.
Coming Home: From Student to Foodpreneur
After 7 years in New Zealand, Fran returned to India determined to build something of his own. His first ventures were in Coimbatore and Chennai, where he learned the nuances of running a food business.
In 2018, Fran launched Truckaholics — one of the first food trucks of its kind in Tamil Nadu. Focused on quality food and unique experiences, Truckaholics quickly became a hit.
Today, Fran is not just an entrepreneur but also a mentor to budding foodpreneurs, guiding them on FSSAI certification, business models, and scaling ideas. He strongly believes the mindset of Indian parents needs to evolve — food and hospitality careers are not “second options” but thriving industries of the future.
Continuous Learning and Big Dreams
Fran is currently pursuing his Executive MBA while working on an ambitious project combining food, fitness, and sports. His mantra is simple: “Continuous learning is the key to growth.”
When asked what keeps him motivated, his answer is powerful: “My passion to serve people and achieve for myself.”
Key Lessons from Fran’s Journey
Follow your passion, even if it’s unconventional.
Stay open to global exposure — learn from different cultures and people.
Never underestimate part-time jobs. They build life skills no classroom can.
Have supportive mentors and parents — their role is invaluable.
Invest in continuous learning — education never stops.
Closing Thoughts:
Fran’s journey from a hesitant schoolboy in Trichy to a successful foodpreneur and mentor is proof that success comes when you follow your heart with persistence. His story inspires students, parents, and entrepreneurs alike to break barriers, embrace dignity of labour, and believe in continuous growth.
