XAVIER aptitude test (XAT)

What is XAT Exam?

  • Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur, is one of the biggest national level MBA entrance exam aspired by majority of the MBA aspirants. 
  • For more than 60 years XLRI has been conducting Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) at all India level to select the most appropriate candidates for management education.
  • The test score is being used by more than 100 institutes in the country for the admission.
  • XAT-XLRI Admission Test is a National Level Admission Test conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur for admission to Post Graduate Management Programme in XLRI Jamshedpur and many other top MBA Colleges, Institutes, reputed B-Schools in India.
  • XAT scores will be accepted by XLRI Jamshedpur and other Xavier Associate Management Institutes and 141 B-schools across India for admission.

Commencement of the Exam:

  • This exam is conducted every year by one of the XLRI based on the policy of rotation and the XAT Exam Dates are generally declared in the month of September every year and exam in the month of January and results get released by Second or Third Week of January.

  • The XAT aspirants should be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor degree under the 10+2+3 system from a recognized university or a deemed university
  • Final year students would also be eligible to take XAT provided they complete their final exam by the month of June.
Selection process
  • The XAT takers will be shortlisted on the basis of their performance and cut -off marks. Based on that the XLRI and other XAT participating B-schools will shortlist the candidates.
  • In Final selection process, the shortlisted candidates will be appearing for the GD, PI and or WAT rounds conducted by the B-schools.
Application Fee:
  1. Candidates only interested in XAT but not in XLRI need to pay a fee of Rs. 1500/-(Rupees Fifteen Hundred only).
  2. Candidates interested in XLRI programme(s) needs to pay an additional fee of Rs.250/- each. Common application form for XAT and XLRI Jamshedpur.

Score validity:

  • The XAT score is valid for just one year.

  1. 30 General Awareness questions were asked, which were based on Current Affairs & factual GK
  2. Candidates had to attempt the essay as well as the General Awareness questions .


  • Each question will carry equal marks. For the multiple choices objective type questions there will be negative marking of 1/4 mark for each wrong answer.
  • There will not be any negative marking for the non-MCQs.
  • No marks will be allotted or deducted for the un-attempted questions.
